Norway Travels
Words and photos by Brandon Sturm
When I stepped foot in Norway I didn't know what to expect. But after spending nearly two weeks there, I can confidently say that you should add it to your list of places to go. If adventure, food, or amazing views are something you like, you will love Norway!
We started off the trip by exploring a historical part of Oslo. They had a Stave church that was opened in the year 1157. Norwegians covered it in tar, which has helped preserve the wood in a the region’s wet climate.
We then took a flight Bergen to explore some of the Fjords. We loaded onto a ferry and started to head up. I thought it was amazing that the water is so deep—this particular one was 1700 feet deep at certain points! With waterfalls crashing down from every direction and the mist rolling over the cliffs, it was an incredible place to be.
That night we slept in a mountain lodge with a hike planned for the next morning. We awoke at 4:30 am and started the trail with headlamps on. As we pushed further and further, the sun slowly started to light the beautiful landscape. Our objective was to summit Pulpit Rock as the sun was cresting the horizon.
We made it just in time and it was an outstanding view. We stood upon a 2000 foot cliff and took in the view of the Fjord below. Being the first people up we had it all to ourselves. Standing upon this cliff face made you feel really small and reminded me how lucky we were to be there.
We only explored a small portion of this beautiful country. I would love to go back and see more. Until next time!
